Greece is among the top five destinations chosen by luxury travelers this year, according to the Luxury Vacation Habits 2025 study by Condé Nast Johansens.
According to this study, Spain continues to be at the top of travelers’ preferences for luxury tourism with a rating at 30% , while Greece is in fourth place, with a 17% rating. The next countries that follow this interesting survey, is Italy sharing a 26% rate in the second place, France with 25% rating in the third one, leading to Portugal and USA in the fifth place with a 16% share of luxury travelers for both of them.
What criteria are used to select a travel destination?
Two of the main factors when it comes to the selection of a travel destination for luxury travelers are the weather and accommodation prices, each cited by 67% of travelers.
Travel costs are the focus of interest for about 60%, and about half 50% are influenced by hotel discounts or offers.
Other factors, such as trip duration, cancellation flexibility, and recommendations from family and friends, combined with information from travel guides, online articles, websites, and travel agencies, also may play a significant role in destination selection.
Accommodation Options
When it comes to where luxury travelers prefer to stay, the choices are varied.
Around 60% gravitate towards boutique hotels, 55% prefer stand-alone luxury accommodations, and 38% opt for international chains or private vacation rentals and villas. Meanwhile, around 32% prefer all-inclusive accommodations, suggesting a perfect way to spend your holiday with comfort and relaxation.
Luxury Travelers: Travel patterns and spending
An estimated of 8,120€ is expected to be spent by luxury travelers when it comes to their getaways in 2025, reflecting their desire for a premium and lavish travel experience.
Regarding the months they choose to travel, the most popular months are: September (49%,) May (42%), June (41%), October (37%) and April (36%).
In most cases, around 32% plan to take three or four trips during the year, while 30% - a “sick” drop of one percentage point compared to 2024 - intend to take two trips.
When it comes to international travel, around 37% want 7-9 night stays, 27% opt for longer 14 night stays and 10% plan 10 night getaways.
Domestic travel, on the other hand, is shorter, with 49% (up 4 points from last year) opting for 3 to 6 night stays and around 45% (up 18 points) opting for 7 to 9 day stays, while the percentage for even longer domestic stays drops to 14%.
Luxury Travelers Travel With Their Partners
A notable trend emerging is that many luxury travelers are opting for a romantic getaway, with an overwhelming 81% now planning to travel with their partner, easily eclipsing trips with friends (27%) or children (25%). This shift suggests that this category of travel is more about private getaways than large group adventures.
City Break, Gastronomy and Wellness, the main “sources” of interest
City trips gain further ground, increasing their popularity by 4 percentage points, while beach holidays follow closely behind with an increase of 3 points, compared to 2024.
However, once travelers are at their destination, 76% of them rank good food as the top “source” of interest, followed by nature (55%), art and culture (48%) and health and wellness (44%). It is worth noting that spa experiences have gained a 37% of interest, with around one in three luxury travelers preferring a spa and wellness retreat.
Relaxation appears to be the main attraction here, and spending on such services is projected to nearly triple from €3,100 in 2024 to over €8,000 in 2025, averaging around €300 per treatment.
